svesti la guibba

jack o’lantern

when you were a little one,
you were told you got cast
in the role of the sun.

it was a play you had to
put on every single day.
But you knew, deep down,
you were the moon.

don’t ask me, and don’t ask you,
how you really, truly knew
you were the moon -
but you did.

cast in the role of the sun, little one.
So you went in every day
to prepare for that play.

you picked up some cardboard
and you started cutting.

over your face, some triangles
around the circle, for your face
to make the sun’s rays -
you pulled out the paint.

pastel colors, one over another,
until you painted on the sun.

Every day,
waiting for a standing ovation
at the end of the run.
It really wasn’t that fun.

Every day,
you’d stand on that stage,
the spotlight’s in your face,
and you’d say to yourself -
SOS, PLEASE HELP.

No One came,
No One stayed.

silhouette

didn’t always get my needs met
grew up thinking i was a silhouette
always told I had nothing in my head
two-dimensional and featureless

always cut my edges, otherwise
No One wouldn’t see I was there
No One looked outside the box
so I taped myself into their square

and i’d sit there in the corner
averting my gaze
my words sat there with me
but were too shy to play
so we’d sit in the corner
and daydream away

i heard the whispers, i understand that
they think i understand nothing
i heard them laugh, i opened my mouth
all that came were red cheeks from blushing

if i could sing them a song
they would know
that notes don’t stick
in my throat
they just flow

i could show them i understand
it just doesn’t always show

all my senses always lighting up -
my body, it’s aglow
apparently in a universe
No One Else knows

here on their planet
i guess they can manage

always the square peg
in the round hole

court jester

just a story
of an emperor who didn’t want an empire
who always had to paint on their smiles
and dance around in desecrated drag
while the audience clapped and laughed

I always loved the stage but I never made it
past the door, people always took their masks off
but I never understood what for

sunflower moon

moonlight inside me refracting the sun
Every One arrives for the light
but the dark draws No One

I painted under the stars
like Vincent, I went
where the colors are
where the colors are

Vincent, I listened
Vincent, I cared
Vincent, I’m sorry

No One was there

but the Moon -

me and the world have been drowning,
cravin’ that motherfucking Cracken

but the Moon shows us our shadows
and I fell in love with the dark

Starry, Starry Night wraps around me
a portal to another galaxy
but Earth calls me home

pulled in by the tide and pushed out to see
the physics of diving into a shadow
and coming up to breathe

over the moon

i feel like i’m standing
on top of the Moon

i feel like i could
go over the edge

i’m looking down
at you

i’m feeling you
underneath me
like a galaxy

i’m looking down

i’m over top of you
you’re looking up

the stars in your eyes
they say that this is love

i’ve dropped my hope
in your smile,
let me go pick it up

then when we kiss
i can feel the embers
falling to the ground

the circus is around us
but its structure can
no longer be found

when you’re around
the silence of the ring
turns surround

i hear everything
and feelings abound
when you’re around

and i’m looking down

i see a constellation
in your smile
it stretches on
for miles

would you let me
rest in it for a little while?
